a thought

It is going to be our only hope someday. We will have to leave Earth, along with all the life and beauty of this planet. Abandoning the only home we have ever had, because we abused, poisoned, and exploited the vast richness and unbelievable bounty she has provided us. We took too much, we stole, we waged wars; we were greedy, casting away the benefits of altruism (the unselfish behavior in which you put your survival at risk for the propagation and continuation of your fellow species) we became I, and I became the dominant way of thinking. I, my, and mine, we attached singular belonging to everything and forgot about the connectivity of our actions.   Ignorantly carrying forward harboring destructive and unsustainable behaviors driven by lust, greed, envy, and blindness.

The harbingers of our own demise, should our actions remain unaltered, as our children and their children will surely be faced with a wealth of continuing problems, an exponentially increasing global populace, rapid habitat loss, deforestation, and further environmental degradation, increased contact with infectious and emerging diseases, global food and water shortages, as well as pollution, global warming, rising sea levels, climate and seasonal changes, as well as countless others. Most of the people are so far removed with most of the social, health, and environmental problems plaguing society today.  Lulled by the mass media and mass consumerisms, we buy, we feel safe, we ignore. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Never breaking the cycle. Those who arise from their slumber, seeing the big picture and the implications of their actions, are often omitted from thought by those still myopic in character.

These are the ones who will not realize and accept that a vital change is necessary if we are to better ourselves as well as our future generations who will become the inheritors our destructive and detestable legacy. It is a daunting task to change the minds of the masses, but through persistence more will wake and join the ranks. Change will come, and it will be those most responsive to that change, those who adapt, that will survive, rather than the strongest or the smartest that may not see the change until it is upon them.
